It starts with just a word or phrase,

that captures a feeling from recent days.

It bounces around until I find,

just the right rhythm and maybe a rhyme.

I write it down with paper and pen,

then cross it out and try again.

And then the words start to appear,

as God whispers them into my ear.

He puts them deep inside my soul,

pushing the pen my only role.

And soon the poem feels complete,

the emotions tied up nice and neat.

But in the end, it’s always the same,

I thank the Lord… and sign my name.
